On my way to the David Bailey show at Taschen’s Hollywood gallery, driving from Pasadena along LA’s 1940-era freeway, the first one.
Driving along Beverly Boulevard, which appears to be the hot spot of the moment. I made this from the car.
The Taschen Gallery, a roomy new art space on Beverly Boulevard.
No, this isn’t Bailey. He was the bouncer & once past him, you were in. Supposedly, we needed a ticket, but not true.
This is the infamous David Bailey.
He was constantly being mobbed and this fellow seemed to be a friend.
Many photographers were swarming, as you might have guessed.
Inside this large space was a very nice bar. I could not partake, unfortunately, because once you have something in your hand, besides a camera, your picture taking becomes complicated.
This is Amber Rose, who I enjoyed photographing much of the night.
Pamela Anderson was also there, along with the host, Benedikt Taschen, Amber Rose & photographer David LaChapelle.
A brief moment with Mr Bailey.
Signing yet another book.
Mr Bailey had the hands of many women on him that night, something’s he’s no doubt used to since being famous from way back in the 1960’s.
This one I exposed just as five thousand flashes went off, so you can imagine your own celebrity portrait. Isn’t that Meryl Streep on the right…?
My muse for the evening, Ms Rose.
At times, I caught the Man of the Moment looking as though it was all just a bit much.
David & Ms Anderson.
At one point, Jack showed up & all the photographers, who had been flagging a bit, came right back to life.
Wearing out his Sharpie.
Amber Rose, Pamela Anderson & David LaChapelle.
Enjoying the bar.
My friend & fellow photographer Ellen Giamportone.
Back to the celebrities: Steven Tyler, of Aerosmith fame. I was hoping his daughter would show up. She did not.
Life imitating art.
Billy Bob Thornton? Couldn’t be.
Fellow gallery owner David Fahey, having a chat with Taschen. This very day his long-time client Phil Stern had passed away.
Was wondering what they could be chatting about but too noisy for eavesdropping.
Friends of mine wandering about the David Bailey exhibit.
Jack making the rounds, being very friendly with everyone.
Jack Nicholson.
Amber Rose again. I told her right after this that I had enjoyed making photographs of her all night, just like most of the other male shooters, I suspect.
Pamela Anderson being very nice to the host.
Steven Tyler, attempting to move forward.
Another photographer, who I thought was just an interesting looking guy.
My muse again.
This photo – of me – I found on the internet & I think I was taking the image that precedes this photograph.
